Springs: $220 to $520 a pair

The most common repair in the Valley and the one that cannot wait. A standard 7 foot door takes a pair of 10,000 cycle torsion springs for $220 to $420 installed. Heavy insulated doors, 8 foot doors and three car garage doors in Eagle run $280 to $520. High cycle springs add $80 to $160 and roughly double the life. Details on the spring repair page.

Openers: $180 repair to $950 new

A stripped gear, a capacitor or a logic board on a unit under ten years old is $180 to $320. Photo eyes are $120 to $200 a pair. When the opener is a builder grade chain drive from the 2000s, a new DC belt drive with battery backup installed is $450 to $650, and a wall mount unit $650 to $950, both with the old unit hauled away. See opener repair and replacement.

Cables, rollers and off track: $140 to $520

Lift cables are $150 to $240 a pair, a set of nylon rollers $140 to $220, and a door reset with track repair $160 to $380. Most off track calls combine two of those, since the parts wore together, for $300 to $520. Details on the off track repair page.

Panels and sections: $320 to $900

One dented section on a door that is still in production is $320 to $500 for a plain steel section, $450 to $700 insulated, and $550 to $900 with windows. Three or more sections, or a discontinued door, is usually a full door quote. See panel replacement.

New doors: $900 to $6,500 installed

A non insulated steel single is $900 to $1,500. An insulated R 12 to R 18 single is $1,100 to $2,300 and a double $1,800 to $3,400. Carriage, modern flush and wood look doubles run $2,800 to $4,800 and full view glass doors $3,500 to $6,500. All include removal of the old door, new tracks and springs. See new garage doors.

Tune ups: $99 to $149

Lubrication, hardware, balance, photo eyes and the auto reverse test, about 40 minutes. The cheapest thing on this page and the one that prevents most of the others. See tune up and safety check.

What changes the price

  • Door size and weight: a 16 foot insulated double needs bigger springs and more labor than a 9 foot single.
  • Opener age and brand: parts for builder grade units from the 2000s are cheap when available and not worth chasing when they are not.
  • What else is worn: the cable that frayed and the roller that bound up usually wore together.
  • Bundling: springs, rollers and a tune up on one visit cost less than three visits.
  • Timing: same day during business hours is the normal schedule; evenings and Saturdays may carry a premium.

How to avoid getting overcharged in Boise

Three habits protect you: get the full price before work starts, ask what is included (both springs, the service call, haul away), and walk away from anyone who says the whole door has to go because one part failed. The techs we refer quote the repair and the replacement side by side when both are reasonable, and are paid the same either way, so there is no incentive to push the bigger job.

Most repairs land between $150 and $450. A pair of torsion springs is $220 to $420, an opener repair $180 to $320, cables and rollers $140 to $300, and an off track reset $160 to $380. A new opener installed is $450 to $850 and a new insulated door $1,100 to $4,800.
Most techs we refer charge $79 to $119 to come out and diagnose, and waive it when you approve the repair. The quote before work starts is the full price.
Both springs were installed at the same time and have the same cycles on them. Replacing one leaves a spring that is about to fail, and a second trip charge. Pairs are cheaper per spring.
No. Same day during business hours is the normal schedule. Evenings and Saturdays may carry a stated premium.
Get the full price before work starts, ask whether both springs and the service call are included, and be wary of anyone who says the whole door needs replacing when one part failed. A tech who quotes a repair and a replacement side by side is the honest one.
The service call covers the diagnosis and is usually waived with the repair. Quotes for a new door are free.
Yes. The same ranges apply across Ada and Canyon County with no trip fee.
For springs, openers and tune ups, usually a close range from a description. Off track and panel work is quoted on site, always before work starts.
Usually only when something hit the door, a vehicle, hail or wind. Wear and tear like springs and openers is on the homeowner.
